And now….a break for our sponsors…..
I know from four years of studying Broadcast Communications that commercials are there to help the television stations buy the programs that they show and to pay their employees and so on and so forth. What I don’t get is their creativity in some commercials, especially those ones that are done locally. I don’t have cable here living with my parents, I get only the local channels such as NBC, ABC, Fox, and PBS. When I see the same 5 or so commercials in a 10 minute span, I wonder what the marketing department of the television station is doing all day. The commercials are usually geared towards those attorneys that help their clients “to get their money now!”. I never really understood why these attorneys are so popular now, those and the commercials for medical malpractice or taking a certain medication.
Another commercial category I don’t get is the commercial that is advertising a sale at a department store like J.C. Penney or Target even. During the Thanksgiving season, Target had the “crazy shopper lady” character and didn’t show any of their deals, I mean what was the point in that commercial, except for just showing their name? J.C. Penney is currently running a commercial where a whole bunch of people are screaming “NO!” when they see they missed a sale or discount, it wasn’t that they were screaming, it was the way they were screaming; it was as if they missed a phenomenal event. I’ve missed sales ladies and gentlemen, and um….I didn’t react like that. It was a bit extreme, especially now after all the holiday shopping. Do you honestly think that in our economy with everyone trying to save money for more sensible things like say rent or other bills we are going to want to shop? It seems now that we only shop for the essentials because we can’t afford the luxuries right now. Perhaps that’s the reason why the marketing and sales department of clothing, electronic, and other retail companies are getting so desperate, they are becoming sort of obsolete. There’s supply but not a lot of demand.

Valentine’s Day…..Commercialism at its finest.
Valentine’s Day has always been my least favorite holiday. Ah, you say, but if you had a boyfriend you wouldn’t mind it huh? No, it still would be my least favorite holiday because it forces couples of the world to “show their love” through superficial things like flowers that die within a week or two and chocolates that are super expensive and cards that are truth be told kind of corny. The movie Valentine’s Day was okay, but not very realistic. What are we REALLY celebrating? If we are forced to show each other we love each other, is it really real? I mean, my ideal boyfriend would surprise me with showing how much he loves me any day of the year, not just because it’s a love holiday. I’d want him to take me someplace special, where he and I could enjoy each other’s company. Where are those simple times? Where a guy courts a girl and then asks her father’s permission to marry her? Something to think about readers. Until next time

Unemployment rate in the United States going down? In which state?
When I graduated college back in December from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a Bachelors Degree in Communications I knew that I was going to be facing a tough economy. Sure, I know the economy is horrible, but when I hear that the government is boasting that the unemployment rate is down it frustrates me because I know its not true. Okay maybe as a nation the unemployment rate might be slightly better, but I recently visited the unemployment office in the effort to obtain a better paying full-time job, when I walked in I was almost pushed out by the amount of people that were in the building and this was a TWO story building.According to the Department of Employment and Workforce; Columbia, has a 9.5% unemployment rate and that doesn’t even take into account of those who stopped looking, are underemployed, or for those who want to re-enter the work-force because of the state of the economy. On the subject of the employment site that they gave me, SC Works, its really annoying how the majority of the jobs that are listed require 2 plus years of experience in a certain field or another. I would like to be a radio personality, the majority of the radio stations around here are either not hiring or requiring both a college education AND paid experience of which I don’t have. I feel like I have wasted my time at college trying to get a job that I love or a job period that is full time and has the benefits that I need. What this nation or at least this city needs is more entry-level jobs for recent college graduates and also a better way of getting the word out. The internet seems to have complicated things when it comes to job searching because there are job postings out there even on SC Works that aren’t really jobs, they’re scams, isn’t there a way to monitor that? Sometimes, I don’t even try to apply to a certain job because it just seems like they’re giving me the run around by sending me to multiple sites and having me sign up for job search engines. Why don’t they just use the KISS method? Keep it simple sweetie.

New Year….Let’s talk about the old one first….
Alright, I know there’s a lot of blogs about 2011 and how great or horrible it is blah blah blah, but to be honest, this past year really didn’t have that much of an impact on me. I mean sure, I was betrayed by a few friends (thank you ex-boyfriend), there was some great music produced, great movies filmed (Breaking Dawn, the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie (Johnny Depp at his best), Sherlock Holmes 2 (Robert Downey Jr at his best besides Iron Man), Green Lantern, Thor (omg he was hot, still is…), I graduated (still unemployed -.-), and I learned a lot of lessons (like don’t trust people who lie directly to your face, or are open to gossip about their “close” friend).
Now that 2012 (the end of the world….I hope not) is here I have a lot to look forward to. I am actively searching for a job and I’m open to dating any eligible man (eligible here meaning have a job and not with your parents please). I know that since I’m back home, my dating life will probably be zilch, but hey man of my dreams this is your BIG hint. Oh well….I tried… -.-
Anyway, to my blog readers, I’ll be writing rants and ramblings from music to movies to stupid boys (I’ve got a good one about that) to good guys (got a good one about that too).
I also have a blog of a short story I’ve been writing and I’ll be posting it on my blog so please follow that.
Until next time readers!
