Everyone has an opinion

That's what everyone says. I have my own opinion about everything: movies, life, our government, so this blog is to give my own opinion. I welcome replies and questions.

  • And now….a break for our sponsors…..

I know from four years of studying Broadcast Communications that commercials are there to help the television stations buy the programs that they show and to pay their employees and so on and so forth. What I don’t get is their creativity in some commercials, especially those ones that are done locally. I don’t have cable here living with my parents, I get only the local channels such as NBC, ABC, Fox, and PBS. When I see the same 5 or so commercials in a 10 minute span, I wonder what the marketing department of the television station is doing all day. The commercials are usually geared towards those attorneys that help their clients “to get their money now!”. I never really understood why these attorneys are so popular now, those and the commercials for medical malpractice or taking a certain medication.

Another commercial category I don’t get is the commercial that is advertising a sale at a department store like J.C. Penney or Target even. During the Thanksgiving season, Target had the “crazy shopper lady” character and didn’t show any of their deals, I mean what was the point in that commercial, except for just showing their name? J.C. Penney is currently running a commercial where a whole bunch of people are screaming “NO!” when they see they missed a sale or discount, it wasn’t that they were screaming, it was the way they were screaming; it was as if they missed a phenomenal event. I’ve missed sales ladies and gentlemen, and um….I didn’t react like that. It was a bit extreme, especially now after all the holiday shopping. Do you honestly think that in our economy with everyone trying to save money for more sensible things like say rent or other bills we are going to want to shop? It seems now that we only shop for the essentials because we can’t afford the luxuries right now. Perhaps that’s the reason why the marketing and sales department of clothing, electronic, and other retail companies are getting so desperate, they are becoming sort of obsolete. There’s supply but not a lot of demand.

    Until next time readers…
